Panelists Will Share Insights on the Impact of Visual Storytelling and Offer a Sneak Peek of the Lucas Museum Opening in 2026 in Los Angeles

The Lucas Museum of Art, founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, is organizing an expansive conversation titled Sneak Peek: Lucas Museum of Narrative Art on the main stage at Los Angeles Comic Con 2025 on Saturday, September 27 at 10:00 am. Independent filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, legendary comic book artist Frank Miller, and painter, illustrator, and author Kadir Nelson, will come together to share perspectives on the power of illustrated storytelling and the importance of conserving popular art forms. The panel will be moderated by actress, producer, entrepreneur, and New York Times bestselling author Jessica Alba and will feature a sneak peek of the museum including renderings, artworks and a pre-recorded interview with the founders, in addition to highlighting works in the collection by the panelists.

Panelists
Frank Miller
Frank Miller is regarded as one of the most influential and awarded creators in the entertainment field today. The legendary author began his career in comics in the late 1970s, first gaining notoriety as the artist and later writer of Daredevil for Marvel Comics. Next came the science fiction samurai drama Ronin, followed by the groundbreaking Batman: The Dark KnightReturns and Batman: Year One with artist David Mazzuchelli. Following these seminal works, Miller fulfilled a lifelong dream by doing an all-out crime series, Sin City, which was an instant success and spawned two blockbuster films which he co-directed with Robert Rodriguez. Miller’s multi award winning graphic novel 300 was also adapted into a highly successful film by Zack Snyder. Miller was inducted into the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame for his lifetime of contributions to the industry. 

Kadir Nelson
Kadir Nelson is an award-winning American painter and author. His original and illustrative works focus on historic and contemporary narratives in American culture. He is a 2025 inductee of the Society of Illustrators Hall of Fame and the recipient of the Randolph Caldecott Medal and the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award for The Undefeated. He has also received multiple Caldecott Honors, Coretta Scott King Author and Illustrator Awards, New York Times Best Illustrated Book Awards, and NAACP Image Awards. His paintings have been featured on the covers of The New Yorker and Rolling Stone and his art was commissioned by DreamWorks Pictures for films such as Amistad. He has also created artwork for prominent musical artists, including Michael Jackson and Drake. His original paintings reside in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery and National Museum of African American History and Culture, among others.

Robert Rodriguez
Robert Rodriguez is a film director, screenwriter, producer, cinematographer, editor and composer. His first film, El Mariachi, went on to win the coveted Audience Award at the 1993 Sundance Film Festival. Rodriguez went on to write, produce, direct and edit a series of successful films including Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn, The Faculty, the Spy Kids franchise, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Frank Miller’s Sin City, The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3D, Grindhouse, Machete and Sin City 2: A Dame To Kill For, and embarked on a collaboration with iconic film director James Cameron on the film adaptation of Alita: Battle Angel. In 2017, Rodriguez alongside his children, formed Double R Productions, creating the films Red 11, The Limit, We Can Be Heroes, and SPYkids ARMAGEDDON. This year at SXSW he launched a new fan supported action film label, BRASS KNUCKLE FILMS.

Moderator
Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba is a Golden Globe–nominated actress, New York Times bestselling author, and powerhouse entrepreneur. She has headlined more than 25 films and hit series across comedy, drama, and action, and continues to redefine herself as a leading producer and storyteller. In 2024, she launched Lady Metalmark Entertainment, focused on bold, female-driven, and culturally rich storytelling. Her upcoming projects include Fox’s one-hour mystery drama Wine & Spirits (Executive Producer) and an R-rated Netflix ensemble comedy, which she’ll star in and produce with Tracey Nyberg. Alba’s producing slate follows major wins: Netflix’s Trigger Warning, which she starred in and produced, debuted at #1 in 67 countries with 91M+ global views, and Roku’s hit series Honest Renovations, returning for a fourth season in 2026. On the big screen, she stars opposite Anthony Hopkins, Andy Garcia, and Al Pacino in Oscar-winner Bobby Moresco’s Maserati: The Brothers, and will lead and produce the action thriller The Mark. Through Lady Metalmark, Alba is cementing her reputation as a creative force, championing diverse voices and delivering globally resonant entertainment.

Opening in 2026, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is a first-of-its-kind institution dedicated to illustrated storytelling across time, cultures, and media. Co-founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, the museum’s collection features works by artists including Norman Rockwell, Kadir Nelson, Jessie Willcox Smith, N. C. Designed by Ma Yansong of MAD with a landscape by Mia Lehrer of Studio-MLA and Stantec as executive architect, the museum will be located in Exposition Park, Los Angeles, on an 11- acre campus that includes new green space and a 300,000-square-foot building with galleries, two theaters, a library, restaurant, café, retail store, and community spaces.
